Peng Li received B.S. degree from Beijing Normal University (China) in 1987 and Ph.D. degree from University of California at San Diego (U.S.A) in 1995. She then did her post-doctoral training in Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (U.S.A) and Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (Singapore) between 1996-1997. She became assistant professor and principal investigator in the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology at the end of 1997. She then moved to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2003 and became tenured associate professor in 2005. In 2006, she moved to the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology (currently School of Life Sciences), Tsinghua University as a professor. Currently, she is the President of Zhengzhou University; an investigator of Tsinghua-Peking Center for Life Sciences, Professor of School of Life Sciences in Tsinghua University; director of Institute of Metabolism and Integrative Biology in Fudan University; and director of the Division of Life Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

Peng Li's research interest is in the area of lipid metabolism and the development of metabolic diseases including obesity and fatty liver disease, with special focus on the biogenesis, fusion and growth of lipid droplets. Peng Li has published more than 90 scientific papers with citations over 10000 times. She has been invited speakers of many international meetings, including Gordon Research Conference, conference of International Conference on the Bioscience of Lipids (ICBL) and the FASEB Science Research Conference. She serves as an editorial board member of various international journals including Cell Metabolism. She is the Editor-in-Chief of recently established international journal “Life Metabolism”, vice president of Chinese Biophysics Society and president of Chinese Society of Metabolic Biology. She has received important awards including Singapore Young Scientist Award (1999) and Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Life Sciences(2012). She was elected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015, a fellow of Third World Academy of Sciences in 2016.

李蓬1987年获北京师范大学生物系学士学位，1988年获得中美CUSBEA奖学金留学美国，1995年在美国加州大学圣地亚哥分校获得博士学位。1996-1997年在美国霍华德·休斯医学研究所、美国达拉斯西南医学中心、新加坡国立大学分子与细胞生物学研究所进行博士后研究。1997-2003年在新加坡分子和细胞生物学研究所任研究室主任和助理教授，1999年获得新加坡青年科学家奖。2003-2005年任香港科技大学生物系助理教授和副教授。2006年辞去香港科技大学职位，全职回到清华大学工作。2007和2012年分别担任国家科技部973项目蛋白质计划及人口与健康项目首席科学家。2009年获得国家自然基金杰出青年基金资助。2012年获何梁何利科学进步奖。2016年11月起兼任国家自然科学基金委生命学部主任。2015年增选为中国科学院院士。2016年当选发展中国家科学院院士。2018年任复旦大学代谢与整合生物学研究院院长。2022年任郑州大学校长

主要研究脂代谢调控的分子机制，脂滴的形成、融合、动态变化及与内质网、线粒体等细胞器的相互作用，以及肥胖、糖尿病、脂肪肝等代谢性疾病的发生和发展机制。在国际顶尖期刊如Cell、Nature Genetics、Nature Medicine、Nature Cell Biology、Developmental Cell、Genes & Development、Nature Communication、JCB、EMBO J等发表90多篇有影响力的文章，文章被引用一万余次。作为特邀报告人多次参加国际脂代谢、肥胖和糖尿病相关的国际会议。现任中国生物物理学会副理事长，中国生物物理学会代谢生物学分会理事长，国际期刊Cell Metabolism 的编委，国内高起点期刊Life Metabolism的主编。
